Hand build a Small Cup Using a Template

In this video, I show how I created a template from a paper cup and then used that template to make  a small cup from a slab of clay.  I also use a cookie cutter to create the base of the cup.  I use these small cups for glaze testing and trying out new techniques.  They are small, vertical and do not take up a lot of space in the kiln.  Click here to view on youtube where you can give the video a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel and leave comments.

Using the Mishama Technique on a Small Hand Built Cup

In this video, I show how to use the Mishama technique to add color and design to a small hand built cup.  Mishama is when you carve a design and inlay it with colored slip or under glaze.  I first apply different colored under glazes, cover with wax, carve thru the wax and under glaze to the clay, and finally apply more under glaze in a contrasting color to the carved areas.  Give it a try yourself – it’s a lot of fun!  Click here to view on youtube where you can give the video a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel and leave comments.

Using a Throwing Stick to Make a Vase and Trimming Right-side Up

In this video, I make a small vase using a throwing stick. I am using about 1.5 lbs of clay. I show how I make the narrow cylinder, collar in the top and then form the the vase shape using a throwing stick. I leave the vase to dry on the bat and then trim the vase right side up. Much easier then turning the narrow form over and using a chuck to center the vase on the wheel.

The Birdhouse Project: How to Build a Clay Birdhouse

In this video, I show how I make a bird house out of clay. While watching this video, keep in mind that I know nothing about birds or birdhouses. The birdhouse is for a fundraiser and was my first time making one. I did a lot of research on how a wooden birdhouse is built since I couldn’t really find any information on a clay birdhouse. I used what I found to come up with this design. Technically it should work for a bird but I have never tested it. 🙂 Plus, unlike a wooden birdhouse, neither the top or bottom is removable to clean the house.
The last section of the video is a different birdhouse from the one I was working on for most of the video – you will notice that the room and walls have a different pattern. The video for the the same birdhouse didn’t come out well and i had to use one from the different house.
